Welcome back! Today we continue with the student versions of Unveiling the Wizards’ Shroud Chapter Three.
I’ve altered the line spacing to make them easier to read on WordPress, otherwise they are exactly as the students wrote them. I’ve copied the files from Adobe to Word to WordPress, so I hope I got the formatting as the authors intended. I take full responsibility for any errors in that regard, and I hope you’ll choose your favorite(s) based on content, not formatting. Please keep track of the ones you like the best. Student Versions of Chapter Three
Group 6 Chapter Three
Owen and Cedric had been walking for hours, passing by villages where they occasionally stopped to rest. Owen was getting worried since they were nowhere near Death Desert and already he was in pain. Owen and Cedric kept on walking straight ahead without talking to one another. Night was approaching and you could hear the wolves howling which meant that they weren’t far from Death Desert. Owen started to shiver and asked Cedric in a mumbling voice:
“What…what…is that noise… Cedr…ic?”
“It’s only the wolves, Owen, don’t worry, they howl when night is approaching, this means that we are close to the Desert,” he answered.
“Are we going to cross it tonight?” Owen asked
“Don’t be silly Owen, you can’t cross the desert at night, it’s much too dangerous, and anyway, I suppose you must be exhausted after walking all day, we’ll stop here for the night”.
The two men stopped for the night in a cave.
“And don’t forget, tomorrow we will wake up before dawn to cross the whole Desert in time” Cedric whispered before falling asleep.
The next morning, Cedric woke Owen up by splashing water on his face.
“Come on, Owen, wake up! We have a long day ahead, we must certainly not be late”. The two men, side by side again, started walking towards Death Desert. Owen could feel the temperature rising as they were approaching. He could feel the sweat dripping down from his forehead to his back, down to his toes. Little by little, sand was covering the roads until they had finally arrived in Death Desert.
“Here we are” announced Cedric.
“Death desert at last…”
Owen was surprised Cedric didn’t seem frightened to cross Death desert. He had heard so many stories about the desert in his childhood. He had never thought that he might cross it one day. It was time, it was too late to turn back because once in the desert, you have to cross to the other side or else you are trapped in it forever. It was dawn and it was time to cross. After walking for hours, the men were half way through the desert. Nothing bad had happened so far, until suddenly a glittery light appeared from nowhere. More and more of these glittery lights appeared and were getting closer.
“Look Cedric, over there, what are those shiny lights?”
“I can’t see anything shiny, Owen, only yellow sand” answered Cedric, irritated.
“But look, they are coming closer” replied Owen.
But Cedric was not paying attention. Then at once Cedric shouted to Owen as he remembered what those lights were: “Do not touch them, those are Bogles, they are extremely dangerous!”
But it was too late; Owen had already fallen under their spell. Bogles were very dangerous creatures that can only be seen by anybody who doesn’t practice magic.
